It actually happened.

This World-Wide Web page commemorates the POWER's last match in Chicago. It was St. Patrick's Day, Sunday, 17 March 1996, and our opponent were the Cincinnati SILVERBACKS, coached by Gary Hindley.

We had finally begun showing some enthusiasm since the roster was purged of Tony Bono, Eloy Salgado, & Joey Kirk. We scored 18 points in a loss in St. Louis, came all the way back from being down 0-8 to the Kansas City ATTACK before losing 8-13 in front of a supportive crowd in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and showed some spunk when the Milwaukee WAVE tried to coast by substituting in their second-string goalkeeper, Paul Royal, against us on Friday night. Seven points in six minutes brought Victor Nogueira back off the bench.

On the day of the game, I did not think it would be our last-ever match here. Mike McGivern had mentioned we should have our biggest crowd of the season. I felt that someone in Chicago would come forward during the summer. I was still there. I was willing to join just about any consortium about which I heard.

Well, on this day, something finally went right for us. We had a span of fifteen minutes of good, cohesive soccer, riddled Mark Simpson for thirteen points during this, and got out with a 15-12 victory.
